Finding What Works For You

I never thought the day would come when I would be worrying about developments such as growing kids spending way too much of their time with their necks tilted while they prod away at their smartphones and tablets and yet here I am! I worry because I believe it’ll continue to feed the cultural and innovative decay we appear to be increasingly living through as a society.

I mean you just take a look at what are meant to be some of the elements which make for the spice of our lives, like art and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. Music in particular isn’t as good as it used to be, even though our various musical tastes are indeed subjective. You don’t get someone like a Michael Jackson in this day and age, or I should perhaps make reference to some other great artists of times gone by, because well, Michael Jackson was probably the greatest of them to have ever roamed the face of this earth!

I’m pretty sure you get my point though – these days the biggest music star exists in the form of some “YouTube sensation” who might very well have some musical talent to write home about, but definitely owes their success more to the marketing behind their craft than the actual talent they possess.

I guess it can be interpreted in both a good and a not so good way, but what it is really, is all about finding what works for you. If you’re to enjoy a fulfilling life in this day and age then you have to find what works for you. It may not necessarily be what you were clearly born to do, but if it works for you then it works!

Going back to the children who are hypnotised by all manner of screens, back when I was in school if you had some kind of talent then it would be discovered, one way or the other, because they would force us to try everything out at least once. That’s how a friend of mine discovered that he had a natural talent for high-jump, of all things!

So you might not necessarily be passionate about it, but if it works for you then take it and run with it. Ride that horse until you’re sure flogging it one more time won’t bring it back to life!

From a more positive point of view, there are certain things in this life which are just made for certain people. I mean you can tell that someone is just made to do their own thing, business wise when they rock-up to whatever gig they’re called out to do all kitted-out in attire from FRC Outlet, for instance! There’s just something satisfyingly comforting about any look put together with clothing from that particular retailer, going a long way to deliver the subliminal message that this is a person who has found what works for them on so many different levels!

However, you can only find what works for you by actually trying things out…
